Artist Statement

Following the abrupt diagnosis of Tourette’s Syndrome as a developing teenager, my background in acting and musical performance faltered greatly. After teaching myself how to live my life day-to-day again, and finding an escape in my artistic expression, I was drawn to dance as a form of meditation, therapy, and also a great challenge to my unpredictable body. Through dance, I am learning how to use my body in a more purposeful way, and to not waste my energy in unnecessary movement, but to channel the “need to move” in my work. The pain of ostracization and memories of poor self image has stuck with me over the years, and finally this pain has become useful. In dance I have found a way to not only train my body to listen to me, but I have also found an outlet to explore my strongest emotions.
